Phoenix is the capital and largest city of Arizona, as well as the fifth most populous city in the United States. It is also one of the largest cities in the United States by land area. Phoenix is the gateway to the Grand Canyon. There are stadiums and arenas, restaurants with patio views, golf courses, and many shopping centers. The mountains are in the city, so there are many trails to hike. The view of the city from Piestawa Peak is spectacular and Camelback Mountain can be seen throughout the city.

Phoenix is located in the Salt River Valley, or "Valley of the Sun", in central Arizona in the northern reaches of the Sonoran Desert. It has the hottest climate of any major city in the United States with average high temperatures over 100°F (40°C) for three months out of the year.

Phoenix is home to a large number of parks and recreation areas, many waterparks and an amusement park. Papago Park in east Phoenix is home to both the Desert Botanical Garden and the Phoenix Zoo.

Sky Harbor International Airport is centrally located in the metro area, east of downtown Phoenix.
